About SCFS
The reason we want to open the Sheffield Christian Free School is:
‘to provide a school (or schools) staffed with committed Christians using a distinctively biblical approach to knowledge and learning. Parents will be expected to be committed to active participation in the education of their children both at home and at school. The aim being to provide each child with a biblical understanding which will equip that child for practical living in this world and to encourage the child’s awareness of spiritual and eternal realities. The parents will be expected to support fully these aims though their own religious or world views may differ’.
Why do we need Christian Schools?
Christian Schools and Secular Schools
Many Christians are involved in the secular schools as Head Teachers, Deputies, teachers, support workers, Governors and parents. Many churches are actively involved with local schools. Church schools are extremely popular. Each Christian will have a ripple effect in these schools due to their own personal witness – some large, some small. The effect for good that can be made in Sheffield’s secular schools should be supported by the Christian community through prayer, encouragement, involvement and resources.
However, despite all the effort and prayer, schools and the education system have moved into secular, materialist and humanist ways. The reality is that, Christian influence on modern education has had little enduring effect. The Sheffield Christian Free School will take Christian education into the ‘system’ and work to extend the choices available to parents. SCFS will add considerably to the support the Christian community already gives to education in the city.
Transforming
- If Christian parents embraced Christian education on a city-wide scale we would have a transforming effect on families, parenting and schooling in our city.
- If church leaders and churches saw education, both Christian and secular, as an important element of mission then, as salt and light, we could have a transforming effect on our city.
- If Christians working in education began to engage with the education system using a Christian perspective we could have a transforming effect on teacher training, schools, assessment, and education policy.
Distinctive Features
The SCFS will have many distinctive features which can be broadly grouped into three catagories.
- Christian
- Family
- Schools
